Fun in the Sun

Lake trip on Friday was TONS of fun! Thank you Kerry And Cass! Why am I so timid about the wake? I DON’T KNOW! But I think that going a lot more often would help cure me! :-)

I feel the same way about snowboarding- I would be more adventurous if I would just go more? But regardless of the boarding the lake was beautiful; the water was refreshing and not shocking cold – the company exquisite …









I love the after lake tradition of greasy food, In-n-out completes the trip with an after party recap. The only thing that could make it better is friends who don’t bail!!! What’s up with that?

Patience, Patience… So as many of you know I have been working on a location for Two Hippies. We are supposed to hear back - any day - if our last offer was accepted at the location we are hoping for. In the mean time, I am still in this transition limbo that feels odd. I feel like a bum. Not the one I sit on… but then again, maybe that one too. Haha, Maybe that is a good intro to Two Hippies hahah Just Kidding – no offence intended. I just feel strange not working on something a little more aggressively, or jsut more focused becasue I have to wait for somemany duck to get in their rows.
Maybe I should call Mike??? I always get off the phone with him feeling like I really could be doing more… More of something, anything – infused with more passion even if it is just for a new book, concept, or – wait is that what I want? I mean maybe I should call Don, because he is so much less intense – I won’t feel so underachieving - Yes, that will work. Arrrrrrg.
Gosh – why does everyone in my family carry the same genes? Mom & Dad I am officially blaming this one you - our lack of intensity that is!

Ok, Waaaaaaaaay too hot. There is a reason people don’t come out of their homes here in the summer unless they have to… Well sometimes I am not too bright and bring and to make it worse, I enlist some to go with me – poor suckers! Hahah

(Thanks Porter, Bryant, and Meagan for be so willing!!) the first 9 rounds were ok, we took a break after #10 to do some monkey-ing around, check out these cool pic’s!

I am glad that we finished all 18, but next time – I say we go to a course with water! And oh, maybe not @ the hottest time of the day.
Nothing like a Sonic banana cream shake to cool us down.- mmm hahaa can I talk about ice cream in every post? I am a bit Pennington I guess!

Eat Pray Love

So, in case anyone missed my meager book review I really liked that book and lately I feel like have been able to do a little first hand incorporation.
Maui – not a bad setting, OK I didn’t do all the “I’s” Italy,India, etc... but all the same…
Eat, Mmmmmm delicious food! The first night was a yummy Kuala Pork, sandwich, sweet potato fries and a Lava flow. Lots of sweet snacks and as you can see here who can go wrong with pizza and “pazookie”? - One night we got a Ben and Jerry’s Ice cream treat and put in the the “freezer” well we forgot to eat it that night and in the morning took it out… uggg, MAN DOWN! We tried a couple bites just to see if it was milk-shake-ish blek. No.
Anyone remember wasting $5 in Hawaii the first time? Chaulk this one up to the same! Except accounting for inflation- it was $6.

Pray- ok, With out getting too in depth, how can you not feel closer to God in a place like this?
I MIGHT have missed church, Grandma P. would not be pleased. But my soul was so peaceful to hike this beautiful terrain and stand under a waterfall – and swim in the “7 sacred pools” - heaven!

Love – Ok It did not hurt that I was there with a cute boy, I don’t know about love – but I do know that it would be a fun place to fall in love if I ever did that sort-of-thing! Haha I loved many parts of the island, I loved the waterfalls, I loved parasailing (hummm I need to develop those pictures, they are on old school film) I loved the fun, I loved the food, I loved the company, I loved the ocean, I loved the sun and the opportunity to just BE!

A GUUUUUUUUD Day!

Cami and I were talking the other day about something we both feel really blessed about… We realized that since May we have had family visitors from either my family or hers all summer long. We have been so lucky and we really do love that we have the space and option to have everyone here!
Soooooo right now Cami’s sister Myr and kids are here so this morning we were all getting ready to go and Cameron comes into my room – “Hey Jera, look at me!”
How can anything warm your heart like this???? I LOVE their cute faces and I LOVE their imagination. I have had the greatest day.
Thank you everyone for Phone calls, cards, gifts, and yummmmmmmmmmy foods! I am a pretty lucky girl! Can I just always say girl and not woman? Hahaha – hummm when does that happen? Just not yet, that is all I know regardless of the #.

Flava- What the?????

Not too long ago I was introduced to the coooooolest concept. Thus entered “Two Hippies” into my life...

Now, I have known a lot of hippies in my day - growing up in Oregon that just is a natural.
I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. Some people have taken the liberty let me know that they think I have a bit of ‘hippie’ actually coursing through my veins… well, maybe so. But I think that just has to do more with my affinity for the outdoors, healthy food, exercise and a splash of ty-dye. Really can you blame a girl? (Apparently so if you have any refined culture I am lead to believe!)
Well- To get on with the story, I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Two Hippies concept and I am currently working hard to focus on getting one into the Gilbert, AZ Area.
Finding a location has been more challenging than I had hoped. Even some coercion and slight stalking not quite doing the trick.
Phil says I can result to prayer and ask that the location I want go out of business. Hummm - that Karma can sure be a @&%#* - sooooo – I decided (after an oh-so-brief gut check) to go another route.
It’s been a jump to think of stepping back from Acupuncture and putting so much focus into something new, but I am really excited about the “flava” it will bring into any area that it will be in and the adventure that will come with it I am all for! It’s a sweet wave – more to follow about it, soon I hope!
All fresh, local or Organic food - hummm except the new addition of hotdogs to the menu… but we’re thinking of so cooler new additions, for sure to be super tasty! I can't wait to tell you more!

Disk Golf

Hey – anyone Frisbee golf? Ok- so does anyone have to eat their words as much as I do?? I sometimes really try to not say things that I have to take back, but I don’t try hard enough. It was less than 2 months ago that I was having a conversation with my friend about playing Ultimate Frisbee, in which he asked me – what about “disk golf” do you ever play that? I ask why I would want to? “Do you run, jump, catch or just friendiely push people over in general?” Ne replied “no, and sometimes people can have fun with out being so aggressive,” I asked him why they would want to, when they could have so much more fun?
That was about the end of the conversation. – New friend and conversation - hey lets go to Disk Golf…. OK – and you know what? It was Fun! I and I never knew there were whole parks just dedicated to this!?! It was like being introduced to geo-caching! I live in such a bubble! And it’s a bit easier to get a small group together to play since you don’t need an 8 person minimum. – Here is to peaking out of my bubble! -
Oh, and seriously could I pose any dorkier? It was a beautiful setting though!

and more beginnings

So it’s one thing to come into the harsh world from the one we leave behind, I am sure, and another to come in with less than the best footings.
I am sad that I have not been able to love and hold the newest additions to the family – But here is little Addison and Weston – they are tough, and having their mothers blood we know that they will be the best little fighters!! They are doing so good, and we are so excited they are off the ventilators and gaining weight! I am grateful for the blessings of the priesthood and prayers. As hard as the things we have to go through to learn about our faith I am so grateful that it grows!

So, I was reminded recently that I had this “thing” called a blog… hummm who knew? I thought I’d give it a go since I do have a few things I can share about… ok, what first?

Jeanie – HAPPY HAPPY Day to you, and Justin!– hasta to your “old single” life! Ok, so there is a a little sadness to giving something’s up and moving on, no? Maybe just I (??) feel like that and seeing this was a refelction for me of the ever changing from endings to beginnings. Even when there are happy things and “better” things to be participating in, it’s still a little sad to transition from something that becomes so comfortable – like my favorite shirt from soooo last season, ok- like 10 years ago, there comes a time I know… it does not always make it easier. BUT I have to say looking at a beautiful bride and eager young groom it makes my heart full and forever hopeful of new beginnings.

Marley and Mylife

For those of us who have seen Marley & Me, I feel like my life has been like the part where he goes into auto mode : about walk Marley, wrote column about blah blah, chased Marley, met Gloria Estefan and Jen went crazy, .. anyways if you saw it you know what I mean - so has been my life for the past few days since I wrote last, please refer to the scene of said movie:
-Hung out with cool people
-Tried e harmony -what a joke, not one match (in the whole world!)
-Tried match.com because a friend had four personal testimonials about it – what a joke I need to take Elder Oaks direction! Not one match, (somewhere in my mind I'm in-between the realization of not one match in the whole world and I believe in amazing miracles because I see them everyday! – Haha)
- Lots of birthdays and celebrations: Aunt Eunice, Steve, Kierstin, Levi, U. Don & A. Eunice Anniversary, Alysa, Jackie
- Didn’t make time for visiting teaching, felt bad about that
- Did make time for Ultimate Frisbee, Loved it
- hung out with Alysa and Kaycee – amazed at how perfect a little human can be, and how fast they grow!
- went on a quazi-date and was introduced to Geocaching
- Went on trail, had Bobcat come right into Camp! Got a bit freaked out and excited all at the same time.
- Saw my first Javalina and scorpion on the trail
- It got so warm on the trail, RS season started already
- met the coolest kids on the trail
- tried to me social in effort to meet my husband, went two a couple of parties, it was painful – I think Cami & I came home and cried. One more social setting we know we don’t have to attend anymore – unless I decide that 40 yr olds with red-vine straws in their rootbeer, saving their gum un top of the can for later is as cool as it was when I was 6, or when I’m hanging out with Levi and Aaron.
- Dustin Graduated from UTI! He’s a Rock Star, had a couple of cool conversations with him – I love to see the man that he’s becoming each day!
- Took Porter, Bryant, Meagan and Heidi to the Chaparral Sharks Spring carnival – It was a blast! Even Heidi climbed the rock wall and we ALL got in the jousting bounce and tried to knock each other out – Porter isn’t little anymore, Hahah we had so much fun, thank you Cami and Shannon!
- AZ Pennington’s spent the night for the first time since I don’t remember when – and we went Geocaching, heidi found ‘treasures’ it was a blast.

- went to Don and Dee-Anna’s passing through (fell in love, I forget how much I enjoy these little communities)
- spent several days in GP, loved visiting Grandparents! I love my “roots”
- Went to see Medford family, got to see Jeavoni in car negotiations J 16 was so fun
- went back up to Corvallis, spent some time hanging out – went on a date
- Felt strengthened from being home
- Brought Chelsea back to AZ for the summer
- had a fun car trip, made it on one day
- Effie re-emerged – I love that little guy. I spend as much time with him as I can. He usually stays in my room so I can see him when I first wake up, and when I go to bed. He’s a great companion, a great listener and so much more!!
- Mom came to AZ, we loved having her here for the week. It went super fast – we kept things low-key for her, so she could get a nap in each day like a real vacation

- Did make time for Ultimate Frisbee, Loved it - OK, It’s a little obvious, I get it.
- Decided in May that we would go off Sugar!
- Decided that first we needed to go to Thatcher and visit so we could get some world famous Rootbeer before our month of no-sugar, so we would start on the 3rd instead of the 1st
- we drove to Thatcher for the day… as the music plays.
- hung out with the coolest people, missed the Cinco De Mayo parade, made it to the restaurant and were filled to the brim 4 times with rootbeer!
- GOT PECANS!!! Thank you Everyone!
- Adam said “You’ll never be able to give up sugar, sugar is the new “Crack”
- Recapped the day, laughed and talked on the way home, then fell asleep I love road trips! (thank you Cami for always being able to drive home!)
- Two minutes before midnight I ate the most delisous Blackberry little ‘pie’ as one last hoo-rahh – apparently not to be confused with hoo-haww
- went to bed @ 12:15 knowing it had been 15 minutes since I’d had sugar.

Quick re-cap

My friend Robe came to town this weekend and we did tons of fun things! Skydiving, repelling, rockclimbing, snorkeling the reef… wait. No we didn’t!

I thought it would be fun to check out some of the cool AZ scenery – but instead I pulled out the ‘Grandma’ card and we just chilled, I didn’t even take him to Camelback!? We did manage to squeeze in a few really great alternatives though:
1. Heidi’s talk - She did great! I asked her if at the end of her talk she could gives us a little ‘shout out’ and mix things up in primary like “I LOVE you Aunt Jera!” or “ Hi Robe!!” she was being shy and coyly said no but we secretly thought she might do it… no luck. Primary as usual, but it was a great talk!
2. Nap time. Really – remember when I said I pulled the Grandma card. Actually after we ate some delicious pasta dreaming that Cami makes :-) mmmmmmm thanks Cam! We were all lounging around trying to keep our eyes open enough to tell funny stories. No one actually got a nap – we tried.
3. The Big Bang – It’s a dueling piano bar That was only the 2nd time I had been there – the players are really good. You can request any song that you want and see if you can stump them. We had a few requests. Robe had ‘Jack & Diane’ and ‘tiny dancer’ - I put up ‘let’s hear it for the boy’ and got… nothing. We think they lost it – or thought I really wanted them to bring the boy player back haha – Anyways the Big Bang is an AZ fun spot if you ever come here!
4. Golf land – (Jan, seriously!) Robe was great and tried to find one last great activity before he went home, shooting for batting cages (all closed due to the rainy weather, or out of business), go carts or a race track – all in Phoenix – except for the Golf land ones! Well, we got there and the tacks are only open Fri, Sat, Sun. Since it was Mon. we were out of luck so we decided on Pool (with and eight ball) or should I say Billiards? Letting my English blood show haha. Anyway, Pool or air hockey , but they didn’t have pool so air hockey it was. So here we are in Golfland the place is totally vacant. We are the only ones in the whole place except for a couple or 19-20 hear olds and the lonely ticket taker .
On our way to the Air hockey table we passed by dance dance revolution – I’d never been on that before and neither had he so we made a little wager that who ever lost had to play dance dance revolution. ½ way though the game he let me know he had been playing with his right hand, but he was left handed. Needles to say, I lost. – poor dance dance revolution – I never made it passed the intro. And that was with his help! I don’t think I’ll be trying out for So you think you can dance – this year.

We played a few other games all of which he schooled me at, race cars and motorcycles…

On the way out I passed a rotating wheel – like on the price is right – and was faking like I would pull it, but I didn’t want to play it. He swiped the card anyway, so I went ahead and pulled it. And- Lucky ME! I won the bonus square of 1000 tickets!
Ummm what do you do with 1000 golf land tickets when there are no kids under 10 to be found?
- Well, I’ll tell you what I did, get a cool juggle kit to put in the playroom! :-) I think that Broc broke it in this week. (Thanks Broc!) He was so excited to play it!

A couple weeks ago I went marketing to a few Physical Therapy offices. One of them invited me back to talk to the staff and share with them a little more about Acupuncture, the type of patients that would be great candidates to refer and just generally allow them to ask questions.
On my way there I had the radio on and I heard a new song start to play that I’d never heard before so, I turned it up and tuned in… I got caught up in the lyrics pretty fast and of course wanted to know how it would end! Well – But the end of the song I had tears streaming down my face! Duh!!!! I’m not even pregnant, I might be a total wreck if I ever am! Who does that?!
Well the marketing went great, I don’t think that were any the wiser – Waterproof Mascara- A must in make-up accessories.

My Christmas Purse

So, What part of this does not scream Louis Vuitton? I got a wonderful gift of goodies in the mail that was waiting for me when I got home from Oregon for Christmas. The delicious items were packed it a very convenient/on-the-go shoebox, that I thought was perfect for any occasion!??
Cami and I decided to hit the movies for New Years day and as we were going out the door in our usual hurried- late surge, I grabbed the snacks and put a few other items in the box since it was sooooooooo convenient! I thought the shape of the items that fit into it and the perfect under the arm transport fit were a match made in heaven. Little did I know this was not the apparent fashion statement that I should have been going for. As we were walking out the door Cami asked me if I would like to use one of her purses - that she had a LOT I could pick from (she is so good to me!)
**Now I have to tell you about a very sacred pack that Cami and I have that would instigate this conversation (not that she would not have politely made the suggestion with out the pact… however this is a free license to make wardrobe or fashion ‘suggestions or strong recommendations’ at any time! Due to the following:
Once upon a time I can across a picture that was really awful – you know, the “Why didn’t somebody tell me that looked so awful?” kind. So Cami agreed that from there on out ( as she could have told me before) she would – as ALL dear friends do – tell me if something about my wardrobe or presentation is particularly just WRONG!**

Since that time she has ‘helped’ me innumerably which brings us to said story… before we went out the door I received another STRONG request to use one of the many purses that might be available, and declined.

So –off we went to the movies and enjoyed the curious case of Benjamin (not to be confused with Bengerman, because that is not a word) Button – which was a fun movie I thought… and on the way out of the movie --as we are most usually the last ones out before the cleaners come in because we like to chat about the movie (if it was any good that is), Cami says while passing the cleaners “ I can’t believe you brought your Bird!” I looked around asking what bird? I don’t see any bird? I didn’t know what she meant then one of the cleaners asked the other one -“ Is there a bird in that box!!??” as Cami is laughing all the way to the car-

Haha Cami thought she was funny – and when I finally go it, I did too. That was the last adventure with my stellar box purse. I’ll let everyone know what the official line will be out as I am sure that you all can hardly wait to have one of your very own!

Mafia Marathon

We went up to my ward camp out this weekend (Friday night). We got away a little late so it was dark by the time we got there (tradition I think! Uggg)

The Felix’s, & Betz were soooo good to us, fed us well and helped us put up our tents when we got there. We had some delicious Dutch-oven yuuuuuuuummy food (nothing loved-up there!) After a few games we settled into what would be a two day “Mafia-marathon”
We did get a little cold at night; Meagan and Sydney had to re-bundle in the night I woke up to "Jera, Jera - Is she still in here? I dont know - Jera..?" - Poor girls, I guess they were a little chilly.
We got up the next day to yummy breakfast burritos just to give us fuel for more Mafia.
(you’d think by all the mafia we played I’d be better- but I still couldn’t talk my way out of dying three times tonight! Joel- I need more lessons!)
We were able to take Kali with us camping and Paige and Brooke came over today to play. I love all their cute faces! We have so much fun – Thank you all for sharing your wonderful children with us! What a fun weekend!
I guess I am off for my first full week on the ‘trail’ – should be fun! Funny that I went camping on my last weekend before going to the extreme – I am glad that I went plush style! Cami even blew up an air mattress for me! Thanks Cam!!

"Loved-up"

You know, among friend it’s always fun to give each other a hard time now and then.
Cami sometimes likes to do that to me about the fact that for the most part I don’t like to share a lot of things that have to do with bodily fluids – Like cups, forks, Air space that contains sneeze particles – you know stuff like that.

I wasn’t even always like this. I used to share food and air space with anyone. I think this happened sometime during the Robert era. He definitely had germ issues and it has stuck! Maybe this will be more therapy that I thought for myself! - Therefore- the following:

I learned a new term this week “loved-up” is a trail word .. in the fictitious trail dictionary it might read something like: Loved-up: A Term used to describe the process of food preparation wherein lieu of cutting, chopping, or dicing the food is put into a trail-walker or young walkers mouth and masticated to in turn be spewed back out into the camping cup to be cooked then eaten at a later time with the rest of the cooked ingredients. Such as: The dried tomatoes were loved-up while preparing the lasagna.

So, this is not a process that I am the most excited about… The other walkers think it’s pretty funny and already like to give me a hard time about it. Tuesday on the trail Ramsey said to me – “hey Jera, would you love this up for me?” while handing me a clove of garlic. I gave him my best and most sincere “ Are you kidding me right now?” face, and the words came with it. He continued “ Aw, come on you can do it” - I told him no, but thanks anyway. Then he went back to Dawn- “Hey Dawn, Will you love this up for me?” She said Sure! And within seconds the garlic was ready for our rice.
I told them they could definitely skip putting it in mine, that I won’t love-up my own food yet, let alone am I ready for someone else’s lovin’. – All this protest while they scooped “my” share onto my rice uggggggggggg. I was struggling with that.

In a few minutes, the rice was ready. I asked Jonathan if he wanted to “share my rice”? He said yes! Awesome. Needless to say I gave him the generous sized top portion before I mixed in the loved up garlic –so I escaped garlic loven’ this time..
Something tells me I might not make it out of this without some loving up at some point -
It’s pretty common on the trail to love-it up then share whatever is in the cooking process among trail walkers. After Dawn had finished – Ramsey said “ Thanks! I NEVER love up garlic!” haha – Dawn smelled like garlic for two days I am sure.

Anasazi

So, I have been wanting to check out this Anasazi thing for a while. I know that I have been really interested in it and ‘drawn’ to it.. I have felt like it is an important piece of the ‘Happiness Clinic’.
I just completed the first week of training and I have to say I am more excited than ever to move forward with this!

As I sat in this place and watched the sun set I knew this is right where I needed to be :-)

I went in Monday morning and it felt like I had known all the trainees in my group already for years! That is so rare for me with a whole group like that! There was such a comfortable feeling there – As I went through the next few days in the wilderness of Tonto National Forrest with just the essentials –
The clothes on my back
Oats, rice and a few other nutritional food items
Water, puncho and sleeping bag
I was so excited that this whole program is based on the bare basics – Physical and emotional pureness. It’s amazing what you can feel out there for extended periods of time with no distractions.
We had an awesome experience talking with a couple of the young walkers who were going home while we were there – they truly had been transformed while they were ‘on the trail’.
There are no elusions that this is a program to ‘fix’ any one or anything though that is often the perceived result. The mission statement is to turn the hearts of the children and the parents to each other so they can weather the wilderness of life together.
I am so excited for what comes next and worried because I am such a wimp in the cold!
I need to get some WARM gear!
In the meantime I am continuing to train and learn the ‘lingo’ of the trail, and cultivate new friendships- this is going to be a fun chapter!

Wake boarding! - sup' with the pics?

On Friday Kerry took a big group of us wake boarding at Canyon lake. Despite getting away a little late is was a blast!
The weather is getting cooler and it was perfect up there! I guess Cami took a video of me riding, so I don’t have pic’s of me on the board- but we got some other ones-
It was blast, Thank you all! - Lets go again!

Oh, and after, thanks to Shannon we ate at the “coolest” restaurant. Jessica – what did Guy's Diners, Drive-ins and Dives say about it? It was good is all I know. Bring on the Portobello delight with sweet potatoe fries mmmm- And fun conversation – Joel , can you please always come with great dinner conversation like that? What are your top three choices of ways to die? – Shark attack (by a great white) I’ll never hear that and not think of you!

Sunday night treat?

So- I kind of forget that I have a blog most days…

Cami and I were hanging out tonight and we were talking to Paul and Kerry and decided that we wanted to make sopapillas’s.

I thought it would be fun and it sounded yummy anyway… So Cami told me that she had yeast and since it was 6pm – I figured there would be time to make them… Yum, Sunday night treat.
Then I found a recipe on line that didn’t require any yeast (I learned the scorched milk trick) so I was excited to try it out! We were out of milk so Cassidy brought some over for us (Thanks Cass!) - So off I went to experiment with the recipe and my sopapilla skills J

Then Paul said how great they tasted with Caramel, so I though I could make that too. I heard once how to make it with condensed milk by just boiling the can in water.

So the caramel was started and the sopapillas mixed and oil was heated –
In goes the first clump of dough… it turned brown in 2 seconds and I pulled it out. It was a little brick on the outside and dough on the inside… well a few minor adjustments to the temperature and the thickness of the dough and I have to say they turned out better than I thought after the first dough went in! They were actually pretty yummy.
We tried cinnamon and sugar, honey (that was old) whoever said honey lasts forever.. um false.
And just good ‘ol butter mmmmm.
We also fried up some store bought tortilla dough that Cami had – those kind of made thin chips. They were all pretty good though.
But 1.5 hrs later the ‘caramel’ still was not done. So, I thought I would just let it keep going.
Kerry and Cami kept complaining that their eyes were burning and we figured it was from the oil. ???
In the mean-time I got busy looking for some incriminating photos on my camera for them to mock, when something was definitely not smelling right.
I went to check on the caramel and the water had completely boiled out and I burned yet ANOTHER pan! (I go through more pan’s than anyone ought to admit to!) - seriously I forget about boiling eggs, pasta, whatever… tonight just happened to be caramel.
I was so excited that our house might smell like something other than onions for two days, ( anticipating a baked yummy small of sopapilla’s! But now we just get burned caramel pan smell. And stinging eyes.
